SCAMPER – Introduction

by Vishal Mehta on January 4, 2012

in Process, Usability

ThinkerToys and few others mention SCAMPER as a process to come up with great designs. SCAMPER is a checklist of questions for you to generate effective ideas for design. The acronym means:

  • S – Substitute (something)
  • C – Combine (with something)
  • A – Adapt (to something or something to)
  • M – Modify (magnify or minimize)
  • P – Put to another use
  • E – Eliminate (something)
  • R – Reverse (or rearrange something)

We’ll go over each of these elements little deeper in future blog posts, discussing how these can help in generating and applying usability ideas in your design. I’ll supplement the topics with relevant examples too. Watch this space and join the discussion.
